wheel cut glass

They say the only thing that cuts glass is diamond,

but consider this former teardrop.

Once perhaps surrounded by fellows,

(where are they now?)

or a single suspended suncatcher,

its hanging point now jagged, snapped, lost,

gone.

Its body wedged in a crack in an alley,

(how long ago?)

and over and over and over again,

the tires of cars and bikes and trucks

rolled and crushed and pitted and scratched and wore.

Yet still it catches the light,

refracts and shines.
